5 kitchen hacks to prevent rice infestation

We have always read about storing grains and pulses in airtight containers and in dry places.

Also, we have been warned not to touch them with wet hands. Still, even after taking all sorts of precautions, they get infected by bugs and spoil it all.

If you are also facing the same problem, here are a few easy kitchen hacks that can help protect rice and other grains from bugs and insects.

1. Bay leaves

It is one of the best remedies to get rid of worms and beetles. All you need to do is, place 4-6 bay leaves in the rice container to avoid contamination and make sure that the rice container is airtight.

2. Cloves

The strong aroma helps fight the bugs and further helps avoid infestation. As per experts, you can also use clove oil as a spray to keep the kitchen germ free.

3. Fridge

Yes, you read it right. It is also advised to store rice in the fridge. This will help kill all weevils, and later you can store the rice at room temperature in an airtight container.

4. Garlic

You can also put a lot of unpeeled garlic in the rice container. Keep a check on them and replace them once they dry up.

5. Sunlight

If rice is already infected by insects and beetles, then spread it on a sheet and place it under the sunlight for a day, and then pack it in a clean, dry, airtight container. If the kitchen doesn’t get direct sunlight, then make it a habit to put rice and other grains and lentils in sun after every 1-2 months.
