Change is inevitable, but when it becomes a harmful practice it needs to be banned.

Today, we are talking about the change in eating habits in the modern society.

Earlier, sitting together at the dinner table and having a hearty meal with the family was an everyday ritual.

But with the change in time and because of our fast-paced lifestyles, now having the meal is no more a practice, it’s a duty that we complete while reading books or watching television.

And, if you are reading this piece of information while eating, we hope you will stop the act today.

1. Leads to overeating

It has been proved time and again by various social experiments that eating while watching television increases the amount of food one consumes, especially sweet, and packaged high-calorie snacks. If we go by reports, the consumption of food high in sugar and fat is comparatively more as compared to savory food items.

2. Television causes distraction

According to medical science, when you eat your brain notes the internal processing of food and sends the message back in terms of taste and palate satisfaction. But, when you eat while watching television, your concentration deviates and thus the brain gets distracted and sends out wrong signals and hence leads to overeating.

3. Lowers the metabolic rate

According to studies, watching TV doesn’t help in burning calories, rather it reduces the metabolic rate at which you should ideally digest the food and gain energy.

4. Results in subsequent meals consumption

According to reports, watching TV during lunch hours increases the temptation for an afternoon snack. According to professionals, since you are distracted by the television while having a meal, your body does not register the act and makes you feel hungry soon after.

5. Blockage of the sense of satisfaction

For you, it might be an act of pleasure, but according to medical science consuming the mind in two activities at one time blocks the sense of satisfaction in either of the cases and thus, as a result, it becomes a waste.

6. Increases unhealthy eating practices

Eating in front of television hinders the act of appreciation of what you’re eating and thus you end-up munching more of junk and unhealthy food items that you should actually avoid. This also suggests that excessive snacking if left uncontrolled could lead to obesity. No wonder kids these days tend to be obese.
