Have you ever thought about making your own scented candle from scratch? You probably thought it was difficult to make but sorry to burst your bubble, it’s quite easy to make.

Making a scented candle at home can be a fun and rewarding DIY project.

Here are the basic steps to follow:

Materials

  • Candle wax (soy, beeswax, or paraffin)
  • Candlewick
  • Essential oil
  • Candle dye (optional)
  • Double boiler or a heat-proof container and a saucepan
  • Thermometer
  • Stirring utensil
  • Candle container (such as a mason jar or a glass votive)

Instructions

1. Prepare your candle container by cleaning and drying it thoroughly.

2. Melt the candle wax in a double boiler or heat-proof container over a saucepan of boiling water. If you’re using a container, make sure it’s heat-proof and can withstand high temperatures.

3. Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature of the melted wax. Soy wax should be heated to about 170-180°F, while beeswax should be heated to about 145-150°F.

4. Once the wax has reached the desired temperature, add the candle fragrance oil and stir it well to ensure that it’s evenly distributed. You can also add a few drops of candle dye at this stage if you want to add some color to your candle.

5. Place the candle wick in the center of your container, using a wick holder to keep it in place if necessary.

6. Carefully pour the melted wax into the container, making sure to leave enough room at the top for the candle to solidify.

7. Allow the candle to cool and solidify completely, which can take several hours or overnight.

8. Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before lighting the candle.

You now have your own homemade scented candle. Experiment with different fragrances and colors to create unique candles that reflect your personal style.
