5 ways to get rid of bad smell from lunch boxes and bottles

A good lunch provides us with the energy and nutrients we need to stay productive and focused throughout the day, and this is why we all look forward to having a great lunchtime.


It also offers a chance to take a break from work or school, socialize with others, and relax briefly. We pack healthy and delicious food options in our lunch boxes.

Also, drinking water is an important part of our lifestyle, thus it is always advisable to carry our own water bottle.

But, when we come back to home and wash them, sometimes the lunchbox and the bottle have a bad smell that doesn’t go away with simple washing.

Here are a few simple measures which can help you overcome this bad smell.

1. Let them stay open

This is a habit of many people to close the bottles and lunch boxes after the wash. However, this may not remove the smell immediately. You must put them upside down in a designated area and keep them open after the wash. Also, make this a habit to open those lunch boxes and bottles as soon as you reach home to avoid developing bacteria inside.

2. Use raw potatoes

Potato is not only useful for eating, but it is equally helpful in cleaning. In particular, potatoes can also be used to eliminate the pungent smell coming from tiffin boxes. To use it, it is only necessary that you coat the potato pieces with salt. Now, rub this potato inside the box and leave it for about 15-20 minutes. After that clean the tiffin box.

3. Use cinnamon

The bad smell coming from the tiffin box can also be easily removed by using cinnamon. It has antibacterial properties, which help reduce the smell coming from the tiffin box and bottles. For this, put some water and cinnamon sticks in a vessel and let it boil. Pour this water in the tiffin box or bottle, and leave it like this for ten to fifteen minutes. Afterwards, wash them with hot water and rinse well.

4. Using lemon peels

Often, we squeeze the lemon to extract its juice and throw away the peel. While, in fact, lemon peels can prove to be helpful in cleaning. The citric acid present in lemon peels not only cleans but also removes the bad smell coming from the tiffin box. For this method, boil fresh lemon peels in water and put this water in the tiffin box and leave it like this for about half an hour. Finally, clean the tiffin box with the help of water.

5. Use vinegar solution

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water, and pour the solution into your lunch box or bottle. Let it sit for a few hours or overnight, then rinse thoroughly with water. Vinegar is another natural deodorizer that can help eliminate bad smells.
