Everyone has bottles of alcohol lying in the refrigerator, in a drawer or on a shelf.
A lot of us receive liquor as gifts and we unwrap them and then totally forget about them.
Some of us just drink alcohol in case of parties or when we have a friend over.
A lot of liquor can continue for a long time but some of them have a small shelf life and even those who have a long one, may get spoiled due to the surrounding in which they are stored.
Just like every other food item, alcohol also needs to be taken care of and only then it will have the correct balanced taste.
We shouldn’t become lazy while storing our alcohol properly because it is not something you might buy or drink on a regular basis but would definitely want to store for a long time.
Therefore, we have some tips for you to store your alcohol correctly.
1. Keep away from sunlight
If you’re placing your bottles on a shelf or a bar then be sure that they should not be exposed to the sun. Be careful of not placing your alcohol on shelves that are in front of the windows from where the sun might peak in. If our alcohol remains exposed to sunlight or UV rays then it might undergo certain changes which will be caused due to rising temperatures. The alcohol can also lose its colour when exposed to direct sunlight.
2. Store some of them in cool places
A lot of distilled alcohol is not supposed be stored in room temperature for example tequila, whiskey, gin or vodka. If you keep these alcohols in places that are cooler, then you can preserve them for a longer time without compromising on their quality and taste. If you store your alcohol in a relatively warmer place then it will lead to the oxidation of it. This will result in the change of its flavour. You can store vodka or gin in your refrigerator because they are supposed to be served cold or chilled.
3. Try to finish beer in one sitting
Other alcohols do not have a fizzy base and are distilled. Therefore, unopened wine bottles or liquors can last for months and sometimes even years. Beer when opened and poured has bubbles in it and has froth formed on top. It is better that you finish an opened can or bottle of beer in one go or sitting because if you store it after it has been opened then it might lose its crispness, texture and fizz.
Some key points to remember
1.Try to consume creamy or fruit based liquors in a year or so because after that they might lose their taste and texture.
2.Store your wine in a cool place with at least a temperature of 50 degree Fahrenheit.
3.Re-cork your wines after opening and using them and lay them sideways for preventing the air from seeping in.
4.Try to consume Champagne in one sitting because of its fizz otherwise re-cork it and store it in the refrigerator.
5.Always keep in mind to check the shelf life or the expiration date of bottles from which you are going to pour your alcohol.
