The mosquito season is here officially. From dengue, malaria to chikungunya, cases of mosquito-borne diseases are being reported every day.

Our healthcare system is already burdened and the best way not to increase this burden is by taking care of ourselves and most importantly saving ourselves from mosquito bites.

1.  Mosquitoes bite you more when you sleep

Have you realised that mosquitoes bite you even more when you are sleeping? This happens because they can sense the heat being produced by your body. Also, while sleeping our body produces a number of chemicals that mosquitoes like.

They also disrupt our sleep by making a buzzing sound when they come near to us while we are sleeping. Here are some easy ways to prevent mosquito bite at night.

2. Wear bright colour clothing while sleeping

Mosquitoes tend to get attracted to darker colour while they detest lighter colours. Wearing lighter colours can go miles in decreasing your appeal for insects.

3. Wear full clothing

Wearing full shirt and pyjamas when you sleep can help cover your arms and legs while sleeping and prevent mosquito bites.

4. Increase the speed of the fan

It has been observed that using the fan at high speed in the room when you sleep can avoid mosquito bite.

5. Apply mosquito repellent

Use a safe and certified mosquito repellent and apply it on the exposed skin. Make sure not to apply it on cut, wound or inflamed skin. Do not use it near the eyes or mouth.

Do not apply mosquito repellent on kids under two months old and on their hands as they are often in the habit of putting their hand in their mouth.

6. Use mosquito nets

It’s an age-old practice of using mosquito nets when you sleep. If you are allergic to mosquito repellents, using mosquito net is the best option to save yourself from mosquito bites.
