DJ Maphorisa and Major League DJz seek to protect the Amapiano movement from Nigerians
DJ Maphorisa and Major League DJz call on the South African Government to protect Amapiano genre from hijackers.
Over the past months, the genre has sparked debate between mzansi and Nigerians over the origination and other things regarding the genre.
SA yano musicians have been intentional on pushing the genre to the world and it’s birthed collaboration with international stars like Davido, Tiwa Savage, Major Lazer and a few others.
However, South Africans were irked on Wednesday after American rapper Swae Lee linked 9ja to Amapiano.
After being schooled by the originators of the sound, he apologised and cleared the air saying that he was introduced to the genre by Nigerians.
That didn’t stop there as the incident awakened some mzansi musicians like the aforementioned DJs.
“All said and done. We can fight all these guys all we want.. but what is South Africa doing for piano to make sure piano is really taken to the world? What has government done for Piano? This is our best export but what support have we give to the genre to make sure it touches all corners of the world? Lets fight and address the right issues to make sure the genre gets the best support possible,” the duo wrote.
“I hope arts n culture is cavin cause we need their support DANKO,” Phori wrote.
