The one food staple that is easily available and highly nutritious is rice. This minuscule white grain has multiple benefits.

In South Africa, rice is boiled in water and after draining out the water which contains starch, the rice is had with lentil soup mostly.

However, many people throw away the rice water and if you’re one of them, then maybe you’d not want to do that anymore.

Rice water is considered to be a magical potion by many ancient civilisations that help improve health, skin and hair. It boosts energy and provides nourishment to the body.

In the beauty industry, rice water is typically used to wash the hair, apply to the face for that unmatched glow.
In fact, it is also used in Korean skincare to minimise the size of pores and reduce pigmentation.

However, there are also multiple benefits to drinking rice water. Check them out below:

1 Rice is a good source of energy. This water is packed with carbohydrates that the body can easily break down. Drinking a glass of rice water in the morning every day before heading out will give you enough energy for the day.

2. It prevents dehydration. In the summer months, one has to stay hydrated to avoid weakness. Rice water is that magical drink that contains salts and minerals required by your body to function to its fullest. In fact, given the fact that we sweat a lot, one needs to prepare themselves before stepping out in the heat. Having an ample about of nutrients, salts and water in the body ensures strength and resilience against heat.

3. Rice water is the perfect home remedy for viral infections. Rice water is used as a remedy for fever to prevent water loss due to vomiting during an infection. Therefore, drink rice water to speed up the recovery process. Even if you don’t have an infection drinking rice water is the best precaution you can have to keep your body nourished from inside out.

4. Given that rice is rich in fibre, it facilitates smooth bowel movements and prevents constipation. The starch present in rice stimulates the growth of useful bacteria in the stomach, promoting healthy bowel movement.

5 Besides viral infections, rice water is beneficial to manage diarrhoea. Not just for adults for infants too. Diarrhoea can lead to severe dehydration and so rice is very effective in controlling it.
