From the time you miss your periods to the time you start feeling those contractions, the journey to becoming a mama can be quite overwhelming.
While it is common to expect contractions and pain during labour, there are certain unexpected events which may catch you off guard.
Here are five weird things that may happen to your body as you prepare to give birth.
1. You may poop
Yes, as gross as it may sound, you may poop during the labour. Understandably, it is one of biggest fears of expectant mothers, but be rest assured that it is completely normal. Think about it. When you are pushing out a whole human being, you use the same set of muscles while pooping. It may cause unintended bowel movements.
2. You blow one out
If you have opted for epidural, the numbness may result in an uncontrolled gaseous activity. So, don’t be surprised if you have zero control over farting and peeing when you are close to delivery.
3. A lot of blood
When you give birth to your little one, you may witness post birth vaginal bleeding. Before you get too worked up, remember that it may be your body’s natural reaction after the removal of placenta. For some women, the bleeding may get really intense and may take up to six weeks to subside. It is advisable to stock up thick, absorbent pads beforehand.
4. Vomiting and nausea
If you have opted for C-section, the medicines may churn your stomach and make you feel queasy. Epidurals can also lead to a drop in blood pressure, couple that with the stress of giving birth and you have a classic case of vomiting and nausea.
5. You give ‘birth’ to the placenta
Yes, even after you are done pushing a whole human from your vagina, you may have to do a little more pushing. Sometimes, the contractions can even continue even after the baby’s out in the world. Usually, the placenta is pushed out on its own when you are giving birth, in some cases, it may lead to heavy bleeding and chronic pain. These are the classic signs of a retained placenta and it may turn life-threatening if not treated on time.
