Limpopo-born singer Makhadzi is announced as Spotify’s Equal Africa Ambassador for the month of September.

We’ve had Tyla, Elaine, Khanyisa and a few others have graced the role over the past months.

The program seeks to put the spotlight on and amplify the voices of African female artists breaking down barriers and making waves in music, exposing their catalogue to global listenership.

“The key is to believe in yourself and wait for your time. If you believe in your talent, then you need to trust and believe in God’s time, we know His time is always the best,’’ Makhadzi says in response to being Spotify’s Equal Africa Ambassador.

Spotify’s head of music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu said, “African female artists have proven time and time again that they are a force to be reckoned with, often with limited resources and opportunities. Extending resources and generating more impactful opportunities for them is of paramount importance at Spotify.”

Speaking about her music, Makhadzi said: “As an artist, you can do music in any way you like as long as there’s a nice melody, nice vibe, and a good message. I make nice melodies for people to dance to and I love that I sing in my own language.”
