If you want to keep a piece of bread fresh for a long time, you can even try freezing it. Here’s what you need to know about storing bread:

How to buy healthy bread

– Check the sodium content

– Choose breads with higher fiber content

Things to avoid while choosing bread

– Preservatives, fillers and colourings

– Refined flour

1. Refresh bread

If you have a loaf of bread that has begun to go a little stale then splash it with little water and heat it in a microwave for 5-7 minutes.

2. Freeze your bread

The best way to preserve bread is by freezing. When you freeze a piece of bread, the temperature drops enough to stop the starch in the bread and makes the bread chewy again.

3. Wrap bread in plastic or aluminum foil

Bread stored in plastic bag or aluminum foil will help in keeping it from going stale. If you have sliced bread, you can seal it up in plastic bags to retain the moisture.

4. Keep bread at room temperature

Room temperature should be around 20 degree Celsius/68 degree Fahrenheit. Keep it away from direct sunlight in a cool and dry place rather than in the fridge.

5. Not all breads stale

Breads with added fat will take longer to turn stale, on the other hand, bread that lacks fat will become stale quickly.

6. Don’t refrigerate

According to various researches, refrigerated bread stale three times faster than bread which is kept at room temperature. Keeping the bread in the refrigerator is a bad option as it draws out the moisture and the bread becomes stale.
