The South African music industry was filled with various activities and drama this year.
The industry lost and gained more talents; conflicts occurred, and peace was made.
However, some musicians furthered their careers by exiting their record label.
Some went independent after the departure, while a few others started their label.
Below are SA musicians who left their record labels this year.
1. CICI
Cici, real name Busisiwe Thwala is known to be an Ambitiouz Entertainment family, as she’s been with them for years despite the departure of other artists. However, she recently confirmed her exit and she is excited over the decision as she still records wins without the label’s support.
In April, Kaybee announced leaving Universal Music Group after 8 years of being signed to the label. He was over the moon as he wasn’t pleased with the operations in the music company.
3. MAKHADZI
Makhadzi trended on social media due to her contract with Open Mic Productions. The singer announced her exit from the label, but her contract was autorenewed without her consent. The singer launched her record label but still in a legal fight against Open Mic.
4. VUSI NOVA
Vusi Nova departs Muthaland after being signed with the label for 10 years. Shortly after his exit, the singer announced and launched his record label named Nova Sound.
There are artists signed to the new label already.
