Your makeup kit is often your best friend. It makes you look like a queen whenever you need to. It makes you look amazing and feel confident.
Now since your makeup kit does so much for you, it is only fair that you do something in return as well.
By that, we mean that you should take care of your makeup kit because if you don’t, you won’t be able to use it for a very long time.
Let us take a look at some of the tips that can help you make your makeup last long.
1. Don’t share
We’ve always been taught that “sharing is caring” but when it comes to makeup, it’s the opposite. As soon as your makeup comes into contact with another person’s skin, it may absorb the bacteria from their skin which might ruin your makeup. Not only that, but it could also cause allergies that may deteriorate your skin as well.
2. Check the expiry date
When you buy a new makeup product, make sure to check its expiry date. Buying products close to their expiry date can come back to bite you later. If you’re not careful and end up using expired products, you may cause damage to your skin.
3. Keep your brushes clean
Makeup brushes deserve extra care and attention because whatever products you apply to your skin, you apply using your brushes. What happens over time is that the product residue gets stuck in between the bristles, which means that you need to clean them regularly.
Wash your foundation and concealer brushes twice a week. Your eye shadow and liner brushes do not require a regular clean up so twice a month is enough for them. Gently dip the brush into a soap solution and clean it with light hands.
4. Be mindful of bacteria
Bacteria can build up over time regardless of how carefully you use your brushes, so it is recommended that you periodically sanitize them. To do this, wet a cotton pad with spirit and dab it on the bristles. Talking about mascara, you must keep one very important tip in mind. Do not push the mascara stick up and down. This causes it to come into contact with external air which may lead to the growth of bacteria. It is much better to spin the brush before pulling it out.
5. Store in a dark, dry place
While we agree that makeup products look good stacked neatly on your dresser, we would still advise you to store them in a cold, dark, and dry place. Out in the open, the products are susceptible to getting contaminated. Therefore, you must keep them away from moisture and light.
6. Oil-based products last longer
Skincare products are usually either oil-based or water-based. But if you want your products to last long, you will be better off choosing oil-based products. If you still want to use water-based products though, you still can. Just remember that water-based products are more prone to getting contaminated by bacteria, hence, they demand extra care.
Just make sure to follow these simple tips and your favourite makeup products will last a long time.
