1. Oats

Oats have taken over in today’s time and are one of the popular superfoods that people eat these days. Be it Overnight Oats, Oats Khichdi or even Oatmeal Fruit Bowl, this is known to the world as one of the healthiest breakfast staples. However, much to everyone’s surprise, they have a very small shelf life and can expire in just 4-6 months. Thus, experts’ advice that we should not buy oats stock in bulk.

2. Flours

Often white flour is known to have a longer shelf life, but that doesn’t mean that you should stock up the flour for 2-3 years. Well, it is advised that one should not stock too much flour and must use it within a year. When flour is stocked for a longer duration, it may get infested with worms and bugs.

3. Canned foods

It is important that canned foods must be consumed within a year. Any minor damage leads to the canned food getting spoilt.

4. Unopened oils

It is said that unopened oils can last up to 2 years when stored in great conditions, which means that the oil must be stored in a dark and cool place or a refrigerator. One should always look out for any changes in smell or colour of the oil, since the atmosphere plays a great role in its spoiling. Some of the oils that you should carefully buy are – walnut oil, grapeseed oil, sesame oil and avocado oil.

5. Exotic vegetables

Exotic vegetables like broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers, celery, and lettuce should be consumed as soon as possible. To store them for more than a week, make sure that they are stored in a cool and dry place and in a paper bag.
