Trevor Noah wins an Emmy award in the Outstanding Talk Series category for The Daily Show.
This is the first time that the show has received this prestigious award since prior host Jon Stewart’s final year on the show.
“This story has been so long, so crazy, so wonderful. Thank you so much to the team and the person I always thank, the crazy genius Jon Stewart. Thank you for calling me up and asking me to come join you on this crazy journey,” the South African star said during the acceptance speech.
“I want to start by thanking the crazy Africans who followed me to this country, David Kibuuka and Joseph Opio, David Meyer, my partner in crime, the writers and the team, Roy Wood Jr. from the very beginning, Jordan Klepper, whose flight got cancelled,” he adds.
“It’s amazing that I get to be a part of this journey. It feels like being part of a winning football team,” Noah said after securing the win on Monday night.
The comedian has been nominated for the Emmy category five times before, but his sixth nomination, which he earned in his final season hosting The Daily Show, finally secured him the win.
