Buying a diamond is an emotional purchase. It is a sincere investment for everyone and costs a fortune.
Thus, when you enter the market to purchase a diamond ring, you want to inspect the jewel you own. The authenticity of a diamond can easily be determined.
Everyone wishes to have their stone to stand the test of time, thus if you have questions regarding your diamond’s authenticity then you can seek out a reputable jeweller or can also opt for these ways to check whether your diamond is real or fake.
1. The fog test
You need to place the stone in front of your mouth and like a mirror, just fog it up with your breath. If the stone stays fogged for a few seconds, then it is fake, as a real diamond does not fog easily since the condensation does not allow particles to stick to the surface.

2. Magnifying glass test

To determine if your diamond is real, hold a magnifying glass up and then look at the diamond through the glass. Look for imperfections within the stone. If you are unable to find any then the diamond is most likely to be fake. Real diamonds have imperfections which are referred to as inclusions, but flawless diamonds will surely be lab-created.

3. Black light test

You will require a black light for this one. Turn off the lights and hold the diamond in front of the black light. If you see a strong blue Florence, it means the diamond is real. If you see a slight green, grey, or yellow colour, then this usually indicates the gem is not a real diamond.

4. Sparkle test

Hold the gemstone under the lamp to see how it refracts white light. Real diamonds will sparkle and shimmer a lot, however, a fake diamond will look dull.
5. Lookout for the setting
This is not a conclusive test, but it is one way to see whether your diamond is a fake. Real diamonds are usually set in precious metals such as yellow gold, platinum, and white gold. The type of gold or platinum stamped into the inside of the band tells a lot, if the setting does not have any precious metal markings, then the stone is likely to be fake.
6. The water test

The water test is easy, but for it, you require a loose diamond. Get a glass and fill it with water. Now, drop the diamond into the glass of water. Due to the high density of diamonds, real diamonds will sink. If it floats to the top or middle, then it’s fake. It is simple physics.
