Nota Baloyi weighs in on the expansion of Afrobeats in a recent interview.
The controversial socialite credits South Africans for the expansion of the music genre.
Over the years, Nigerians are known to be the face of Afrobeats, and we’ve seen artists like Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy score multiple awards for their contribution to the genre.
Nota further stated that, “Without South Africa there would be no AfroBeats… 77% of the streaming revenue from Subsaharan Africa is from South Africa, we are not competing with Nigeria. We are the reason they even have a global audience & we dominate this continent with our culture!”
However, some people didn’t accept Nota’s claim.
What’s your take on this?
