8 ways to clean tough burn stains from utensils

While you might be a foodie and in love with cooking but burnt utensils and unwashed dishes with burnt stains never make a great site in the kitchen and they are one of those propelling reasons that keep you off cooking, right?


It is difficult to get rid of food stains from burnt utensils and even if you use the best dishwashing soap available in the market, the scrubbing makes you tired and the result of your labours is also not encouraging.

These easy tips will help you clean your burnt utensils quickly and make them shine like never before!

1. Wine

Pour some aged wine on the burnt pan and allow it to rest for sometime. After a few minutes, you may notice the black stains disappear.

2. Vinegar

Fill the burnt vessel with water and add 1 cup of vinegar to it. Let it sit overnight. In the morning, clean the vessel with regular soap.

3. Salt

Boil some water with a good dose of salt to loosen burnt food bits. Then scrub the vessel with a little more salt.

4. Onion

Fill the burnt vessel with water. Drop 5 to 6 onion skins (outer layer of the onion) in the water and heat on high flame and close the lid. Boil for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove from the stove and clean the surface with normal soap.

5. Hot water

When the food is burnt in the vessel, immediately pour in hot water and let it soak for half an hour. It will help loosen up all the burnt food bits.

6. Aerated drinks

Pour a little cola in a pan and simmer it on a low flame. After a few minutes, you will notice the black stains disappear.

7. Cream of tartar

Combine two tablespoons of cream of tartar and about a cup of water in the burnt utensil and bring to a boil. Remove from the burner and clean with normal soap, you may notice the black stains disappear.

8. Baking soda

Scrubbing baking soda in a circular motion on the burnt pan will help remove burnt stains. But it is important to first soak the utensil in warm lemon water for an hour.
