Japan Rail Pass has analysed the most popular and talked-about luxury train rides across the globe to uncover the best, with South Africa’s Rovos Rail and The Blue Train making it to the list.


To achieve this, they examined a number of variables, such as global search volumes, Instagram hashtags, and reviews from Tripadvisor, an American based company that runs user-generated content mobile apps, comparing shopping websites, and online travel agencies.

Their total was then weighted to get an index score.

These trains offer travellers a top-notch experience, combining comfort, excellent service, and stunning views.

Rovos Rail and Seven Stars in Japan tied for fourth place in the survey with a combined score of 8.31/10.

One of the most opulent train trips in the world is reportedly the Rovos Rail, which travels through South Africa.

Often referred to as Japan’s version of the Orient Express, the Seven Stars Kyushu travels three nights and four days east from Fukuoka to Oita Prefecture.

The average score for both opulent trains on Tripadvisor was 4.4, while their Instagram hashtag count was 12,000.

The well-known luxury train in South Africa, Rovos Rail, which runs a number of routes, one of which being the lengthy trip from Cape Town to Dar es Salaam.

Rovos Rail offers customers a nostalgic travel experience that transports them back in time while maintaining modern comfort thanks to its historic carriages and classic vibe.
