5 nutritional dos and don’ts for perfect skin

While topical skincare routines are important, what we consume plays an equally major role in achieving and maintaining healthy skin.

Here are 5 essential dos and don’ts to keep your skin healthier and beautiful.

Dos

1. Water – Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to keep your skin hydrated and glowing. If you live in a hot climate or have an active daily routine you may need to drink a little more than this.


2. Fruits & vegetables – Consume fruits & vegetables as much as possible. These colorful food choices can give your skin all the necessary vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that aid in protecting the skin from damage and aging.

3. Protein intake – Take your protein in a balanced quantity so that the process of skin repair and regeneration gets boosted. You can include some lean sources of protein in your diet such as tofu, fish, beans, and lentils.

4. Green teas for detox – Include green teas or detox water in your daily dietary intake. This will help detoxify your body from within and enhance the skin glow. Drinking green tea can improve skin health and protect against sun damage due to its high antioxidant content.

5. Probiotics – Food rich in probiotics, such as yogurt and kefir can help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria, which may, in turn, improve skin health.

Don’ts

1. Avoid excessive sugar & processed food – Diets high in sugar and processed foods can contribute to skin problems like acne and premature aging. Go for whole and unprocessed foods instead.

2. Avoid alcohol or smoke – Alcohol or smoking can dehydrate the skin and impair the body’s ability to flush out toxins, leading to dullness and puffiness. Moderation is key; opt for hydrating beverages like water or herbal teas whenever possible.

3. Limit caffeine – While a cup of coffee can be a morning staple, excessive caffeine can dehydrate your skin. If you consume caffeine, balance it with plenty of water throughout the day to maintain hydrated skin.

4. Limit dairy consumption – Some studies suggest a link between dairy consumption and acne, particularly with non-organic dairy products. If you notice breakouts, consider reducing dairy intake or switching to alternatives like almond or oat milk.
5. Do not skip workout – If you have a sedentary lifestyle or have a routine that does not include much physical work consider adding up some light physical workouts in your routine be just a walk or stretching in the beginning will help.
