Chidinma Adetshina has been making media appearances since her arrival in Nigeria and her crowning as the new Miss Universe Nigeria.
In a recent interview, the model opened up about the criticism and hatred she faced after being selected as a Miss South Africa finalist.
“It all started because of my name. People were not happy that my name is Chidinma and I am representing South Africa; that’s where it actually really began,” she shared.
“I have lived there for 23 years, and it’s heartbreaking to see that I wasn’t accepted or welcomed.”
Chidinma also mentioned that she wouldn’t discuss the identity theft accusations against her mother, citing that it is a legal matter.
As she recounted the difficult experiences she endured in South Africa before withdrawing from the pageant, she became emotional and broke down in tears.
Despite the challenges, Chidinma confirmed during the interview that she was born and raised in South Africa, living there for 23 years, and still feels proudly Nigerian.
The 23-year-old expressed her gratitude to Silverbird and the Miss Universe Nigeria team for giving her this opportunity.
