Medical practitioner Musa Mthombeni, known for his playful and outspoken nature, found himself in hot water over the weekend after making a controversial joke about people stranded in the snow.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Dr. Musa shared a throwback vacation photo of himself and his wife, Liesl Laurie, enjoying the snow.
The couple posed with snowboards, and he used the opportunity to poke fun at those stuck in the recent snowstorm.
“We’re busy prepping to represent South Africa in the 2026 Winter Olympics,” his caption read.
“I heard there’s chaos in the Free State, with some of you sleeping in cars and peeing on the freeway. If you had a snowboard with you, you’d be just fine! Anyway, have a good weekend and try to avoid strangers in this weather,” Mthombeni quipped.
While the post was quickly taken down, social media users were faster, snapping screenshots and sharing them across platforms. Many found the joke insensitive, criticizing him for making light of a situation that left many stranded in dangerous conditions.
The backlash has sparked heated discussions online, with some defending his humor while others expressed disappointment in the ill-timed joke.
Mind you people are getting hypothermia and starving on those roads but nooo let’s make jokes shall we ? https://t.co/mZIrrSsgJR
