Cutting back on your sugar intake, but don’t like your coffee bitter and bland?
There are plenty of ways to sweeten your steaming cup of morning beverage without added sugar.
Get innovative with your daily cup of coffee by getting a bit innovative and adding natural sweeteners like cinnamon, honey or dates.
On International Coffee Day, here’s a list of natural sweeteners to add flavor and sweetness to your cuppa.

1. Monk fruit

A small round fruit native to southern China, monk fruit sweeteners are fast catching up on popularity among fitness enthusiasts as well diabetics, considering its usage has the stamp of approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and is also Generally Recognised as Safe (GRAS). This means adding monk fruit sweetener to your daily cup of coffee isn’t such a bad idea.

2. Cinnamon

This may not appeal to you if you like your coffee super-sweet but cinnamon can still work for you with its mild sweetness and flavoursome appeal. Crushing your cinnamon stick to a coarse powder and adding it to a steaming cup of coffee can lend your beverage a unique taste.

3. Honey

Honey can be a suitable sweetener for those who like their coffee lukewarm considering honey can react with high temperatures and can create toxins, as per ancient medicinal practice of Ayurveda. Many people love the taste of honey with their beverages. It’s a perfect addition to your cold coffee, if that’s what works for you.

4. Dates

Dates and coffee are a combination you must try to give your morning cuppa a nutritional boost. Dates are high in fibre, antioxidants and loads of minerals. Cut them into small pieces before grinding them and turning them into a fine paste. Add this to your morning brew and let its natural sweetness satisfy your sugary cravings.

5. Dark chocolate

A double treat for chocolate and coffee lovers, this is a combination made in heaven. This would also make sure you don’t miss the extra sweetness of processed sugar. Melt some dark chocolate and add it to your big cup of coffee for a warm and soothing beverage.

6. Agave nectar

A popular alternative to sugar, agave nectar has a syrup-like consistency and is extracted from the agave plant. It can also dissolve easily in cold beverages in case you are looking to mix it in your cold coffee.
