Cassper Nyovest, also known as Refiloe Phoolo, stirred up some drama after challenging maskandi artist Mthandeni Manqele to a boxing match.
The challenge came after Cassper publicly voiced his disappointment with the SAMAs, where Tyla’s viral hit Water missed out on the Record of the Year award, despite her international success.
“No way, Tyla won a Grammy, but not the SAMA for Record of the Year. Y’all are playing games,” Cassper tweeted.
Mthandeni fired back on social media, mocking Cassper as “one of those hip hop boys in baggy pants” who’s looking for attention.
He added confidently, “I’ll beat him up!”
Cassper later clarified his comments, apologizing if he offended Mthandeni.
“I meant no disrespect. I’m not the tough-guy type, but I do love boxing. So if you want to go there, we can,” Cassper wrote.
Mthandeni, who had celebrated his SAMA win with his team after performing, said he would’ve celebrated on stage had he received the news while performing, calling it a “bittersweet moment” for his track Paris, which was also among UKhozi FM’s top songs last year.
