5 compelling reasons you should plan a second child

‘When are you having a second child?’ You may have heard this advice from every aunty in the neighbourhood. We don’t see the need to put that pressure on you.

To each his own, but we’re listing 5 solid reasons that will help you decide if you need to have another baby or not.

1. Siblings always have each other’s back

Siblings stick to each other even when you are not around. Most parents are concerned about how their children will hold up after they are gone. Having another child solves that for good. They’ll have each other’s lifelong company. If you’re close to your siblings, you’ll know that your child deserves the same solid support system you had when growing up.

2. You already know everything about pregnancy

When you’re pregnant once, you’re aware of the good, bad and terrible of it all. Becoming a parent for the first time had you collecting info like a maniac but now you know the drill. Today, you’re a better and stronger version of yourself and you know how to handle the challenges pregnancy throws at you. You can even visit the same gynaecologist that helped you during your first pregnancy. Medically, the labour time is less for the second delivery too.

3. An extra hand and extra care

Sometimes, parents aren’t enough to deal with the problems of a child. It may be generational differences or just inability to open up. It’s okay to feel tired of child tantrums. This is when their partner in crime steps in. Siblings know how to handle their little sib better. The older child also runs to grab an extra spoon or baby wipes when you need them. We know this is little help but it goes a long way.

4. They don’t get scared often

Things automatically seem less scary when your kid has a buddy. They no longer crawl into your bed in the middle of the night. They can play together and learn from each other’s experiences. Having a buddy creates a sense of support and both the kids feel stronger in each other’s company. Well, isn’t that a cute reason to have another?

5. Increased problem-solving skills

The single child receives all the undivided love and pampering. This can often turn them into a needy person as they grow up. When you introduce another kid in the family, the two will experience love and rivalry too. Teach them to talk it out and resolve conflicts. This will prepare them for life ahead and build their communication and problem-solving abilities too.
