Cyril Ramaphosa fired for giving Nigerians free visas

President Cyril Ramaphosa has come under criticism following his recent speech about his meeting with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his address, Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of strengthening trade partnerships between South Africa and Nigeria and expressed his enthusiasm for seeing Nigerian products on South African shelves.

“We look forward to seeing more Nigerian companies investing in South Africa. In fact, we want to see Nigerian products on the shelves of South African shops. We are encouraged by the actions being undertaken under your leadership to further strengthen and foster a business environment in Nigeria that offers assurances to investors, including from South Africa,” Ramaphosa stated.

In addition, President Ramaphosa announced plans to introduce a simplified five-year multiple-entry visa for Nigerian tourists, eliminating the need to submit passports for visa applications.

However, following these announcements, many South Africans expressed displeasure with Ramaphosa’s decisions.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Giving millions of Nigerians visa-free entry is an act of war against the South African people! Every single African, Coloured, Indian, and White South African citizen must resist this with everything we have.”

Another user commented, “Cyril Ramaphosa is the biggest disappointment ever. We had so much faith in him, only for him to turn out to be the worst thing to happen to South Africa. It is clear as day that South Africans don’t want anything to do with Nigerians, yet you go out of your way to show us that you don’t care about our opinion. Guys, we need to punish the ANC in 2026. They don’t listen.”
