As the year draws to a close, the data on Global and Regional Tourism Performance by the UNWTO reveals that international tourism has already recovered 87% of its former glory.
This resurgence indicates that the world is gradually stepping out from the shadows of the pandemic, with travellers eager to explore the world once more.
Among the notable trends, European nations have emerged as front-runners on the global tourism stage, with their rich history, stunning architecture and vibrant cultures proving irresistibly appealing.

1. France
France was the most visited country in the world with, 89.4 million arrivals. The country hosted the Paris Olympics, however, it has been a leading destination for 30 years.
The country is renowned for its rich history, diverse culture, museums, the romantic charm of Paris, and stunning landscapes, and is home to 49 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
In addition, the abundantly beautiful countryside is full of fabulous villages, mountains, vineyards, and the occasional castle. Paris, the capital of France, is the most visited city in Europe, with 38 million tourists visiting in 2019.

The destination also has beautiful beaches and the Red Sea is a happy hunting ground for scuba enthusiasts because of its clear waters and vibrant marine life.
8. Italy
Italy has captured the hearts of travellers in reality and the digital world. The destination ranked 4th as the most Googled destination. The country is a mishmash of gorgeous fairytale towns, bustling cities and pristine beaches.
While the shopping in Milan is obviously second to none, the city’s café scene is equally worth exploring.
