Shepherd Bushiri, founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering International Church, has expressed his disappointment in South African media for celebrating Chris Brown’s sold-out FNB Stadium concert, which drew 94,000 attendees.
Taking to his Facebook page, Bushiri called out the media for what he perceives as a biased focus on the American artist while disregarding his own achievements at the same venue.
Bushiri highlighted that he had hosted events at the FNB Stadium where up to 110,000 people attended his Crossover Night prayers.
Despite this, he claimed that South African media ignored his record-breaking events, even though the FNB Management publicly acknowledged the attendance.
In his post, Bushiri wrote: “So Chris Brown’s concert at FNB Stadium drew a crowd of 94,000, and the South African media is going crazy, crowning him ‘the biggest crowd puller.’ What a shame. They are trying to turn a blind eye to my meetings in the same stadium where we recorded an all-time high with 110,000 people attending my prayers for four consecutive years. Despite FNB Management publicly posting about it, no South African media has written about it to date.”
Bushiri further criticized the media for allegedly undermining his ministry in favor of promoting Chris Brown, suggesting that their coverage of his followers as “brainwashed” contrasted with the positive portrayal of Brown’s fans.
He also accused the media of attempting to “dethrone the gospel” while celebrating what he considers “evil.”
He concluded, “Indeed, if you hate someone, even their most beautiful face looks ugly. The South African media is trying to enthrone Chris Brown and dethrone the GOSPEL. They gladly wrote about Chris Brown’s fans being ‘entertained,’ while my followers were labeled ‘brainwashed.’ Soon, South Africans will wake up to the real agenda — hating men of God and celebrating evil. Diabolical!”
