Naledi Aphiwe slams Shembe church

Rising star Naledi Aphiwe Myongwane has found herself in hot water after criticizing the Shembe Church’s marriage customs.

The debate began when social media users raised concerns about older men seeking young brides during a mass engagement ceremony in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Joining the discussion, Myongwane strongly condemned the practice in a series of posts, expressing disbelief at young women marrying much older men.

She mocked the idea, suggesting that such unions would leave young brides widowed early or burdened with caring for elderly husbands.

Her remarks angered members of the church, who viewed them as disrespectful.

Shembe Church spokesperson Thokozani Mncwabe dismissed Myongwane’s comments, warning her to stop interfering in church matters.

He stated that the church does not concern itself with her music and accused her of being misguided.

Mncwabe further explained that the engagements were formal arrangements and that all brides involved were of legal age.
