Longwe Twala, son of veteran music producer Sello “Chicco” Twala, made a brief appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, marking his first in-person session after previously citing ill health.
He is on trial for allegedly stealing studio equipment worth R200,000 from his father in September 2024 while Chicco was in the U.S. Initially arrested alongside his brother Sello Jr., he now stands alone after the National Prosecuting Authority dropped charges against his sibling due to insufficient evidence.
Chicco has been vocal about his son’s struggles, saying: “Longwe, whom I chased away a while ago because of his drug addiction, jumped the high walls, broke into my studio, and stole my stuff… They have been stealing from me for a long time. Enough is enough—let them rot in jail.”
Longwe, currently under house arrest from 6 AM to 6 PM, has relapsed into drug addiction multiple times, with stints in rehab in 2022 and 2024.
The trial, initially set to begin on February 5, has been postponed to February 17 for further investigation.
