Royal AM owner Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize has suffered another legal blow as her court case against the South African Revenue Service (SARS) was reportedly struck off the roll earlier this week.
The ruling has left SARS in full control of the club’s administration, with liquidation now looming.
Reports suggest that Royal AM attempted to argue that player-owner Andile Mpisane should not be affected by MaMkhize’s tax issues, hoping this would exempt the club from SARS’ grip.
“The club’s argument is that Andile is not the subject of any tax investigation, so the club should be immune from the dispute SARS has with MaMkhize,” sources revealed.
However, the court dismissed the case, reinforcing SARS’ authority over the financially troubled team.
MaMkhize’s tax troubles date back years, with reports in 2022 revealing she owed R12.7 million.
That amount has since ballooned past R40 million, further worsened by a ruling that forced Royal AM to pay former player Samir Nurkovic’s contract in full. In 2023, SARS raided her R20 million La Lucia mansion as part of its crackdown on tax evasion.
Despite the turmoil, MaMkhize insists the club is working with the curator to ensure players and staff receive their salaries.
“It has always been the ethos of Royal AM to prioritise the well-being of our personnel, and we remain dedicated to upholding that principle despite the current challenges,” she stated.
