Background actors stop filming on ‘My Brother’s Keeper’

My Brother’s Keeper’s filming has reportedly come to a halt after background actors protested due to unpaid salaries.

According to multiple sources close to the set, over 50 background actors have not been paid for their work in December 2024 and January 2025.

One anonymous actor shared their frustration with Sunday World, explaining that after months of waiting for their wages, they decided to stage a sit-in on February 3.

“We refused to start working until we were paid. The production ignored our demands and continued without us,” the actor said.

The group’s protest led to a temporary shutdown of the shoot. While the actors were paid for December’s work, they are still awaiting payment for January.

In response to the claims, casting coordinator Kelly Nyathi downplayed the situation, asserting that there were no disruptions on set.

“We did not use background actors on Monday, but filming continued without issue. Everything went back to normal afterward,” Nyathi stated.

Despite her assurances, the background actors remain firm in their stance that no further work will be done until they are fully compensated for all outstanding payments.
