Samir Nurkovic speaks out as legal battle with MaMkhize drags on

Former Royal AM striker Samir Nurkovic has broken his silence on his ongoing legal battle with Shauwn Mkhize over unpaid salaries.

The Serbian-born footballer joined the club in 2022, only for his contract to be terminated the same year.

He took the matter to FIFA, which ruled in his favor, banning Royal AM from transfers and ordering the club to pay his full two-year contract.

Despite the ruling, Nurkovic has yet to receive his money, and reports now suggest the amount owed has grown to over R15 million due to interest.

Speaking to the media, he said, “Certain things in a professional football and professional career are beyond the control of the player. Some people deal with it.”

The unresolved case is just one of several legal battles Shauwn Mkhize is currently facing. Her tax dispute with SARS recently took a blow when her case was struck off the roll, leaving the tax authority in control of Royal AM through curatorship.

Reports suggest the club attempted to use player-owner Andile Mpisane as leverage, arguing, “Andile is not the subject of any tax investigation, so the club should be immune from the dispute Sars has with MaMkhize.”

Meanwhile, Shauwn’s financial troubles continue to mount, with her SARS debt reportedly ballooning from R12.7 million to over R40 million in just a few years.
