Major League DJz speak out after being left off SA Hip-Hop DJ list

Major League DJz, the duo of Bandile and Banele Mbere, have expressed disappointment after being left off a recently released list celebrating DJs who contributed to South African hip-hop.

The list, compiled by a social media user, included names such as the late DJ Dimplez, DJ Vigilante, DJ Speedsta, DJ Capital, DJ Sliqe, DJ Switch, DJ Slim, DJ Citi Lyts (RIP), DJ Hudson, Ms Cosmo, and Miss Pru DJ. The tweep captioned it: “Y’all are appreciated, SA Hip-Hop wouldn’t be where it is now without your contribution.”

Upon seeing the post, Major League DJz broke their silence, responding: Y’all forget too much.”

However, their reaction didn’t sit well with many social media users, who quickly reminded the duo of their shift from hip-hop to Amapiano.

One user commented: “It’s because you guys switched to Amapiano. Otherwise, your impact on South African Hip-Hop is major.”

Another added: “Respectfully, you guys jumped ship the moment it got bad for SA Hip-Hop & Piano started booming. Maybe don’t worry too much about a genre y’all left behind and celebrate the AMAZING, groundbreaking work you’ve done for Piano.”

Some were even more blunt, with one user stating: “Y’all don’t have much impact. The body of work isn’t enough.”
