Nota Baloyi under fire as SAHRC takes him to Equality Court over racial remarks
Music executive Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi is set to appear before the Equality Court following allegations of making hate-filled statements about white people.
The case stems from comments he made during an episode of The Hustlers Corner podcast, hosted by DJ Sbu, which sparked widespread outrage and led to an investigation by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
During the podcast, Baloyi made remarks suggesting that white people were biologically inferior to black people. “
They are an inferior species [compared] to us. We are Homo sapiens; they have got Neanderthal blood in them. This is science,” he claimed.
He further stated, “The white population is shrinking. For us, it makes no sense to descend into the savagery that they have. Whatever leadership they have is dying out. We are dealing with the weakest whites the world has ever seen.”
The SAHRC confirmed on Monday that it had received multiple complaints from across the country, prompting it to file a case against Baloyi in the Equality Court.
According to the commission, his remarks fall within the scope of hate speech under South African law.
“Following the publication of the podcast, the commission opened its own-accord investigation and received complaints from across the country registered with the Gauteng provincial office. The SAHRC found a prima facie case of hate speech,” the statement read.
Legal measures being sought against Baloyi include a public apology, sensitivity training, community service, and a monetary fine.
However, the commission noted that additional sanctions could also be considered.
In response, Baloyi appeared defiant, equating his case to those involving political figures such as Julius Malema and Andile Mngxitama.
“I take the referral of this matter to the Equality Court very seriously, as I join Julius Malema and Andile Mngxitama as other notable figures that have exposed the fragility of whiteness,” he said.
He also dismissed any notion of issuing an apology. “I cannot apologise for stating facts, and I am glad to have been able to give those with Neanderthal ancestry a much-needed racial sensitivity crash course.”
He further expressed gratitude to DJ Sbu for supporting him throughout his career, revealing, “I am very fortunate to have a big brother like DJ Sbu, who has stood by me for over 23 years and has even given up his lucrative radio job to focus on making his podcast a success
