Babes Wodumo shuts down claims about Mampintsha’s lobola and wedding

Babes Wodumo has dismissed allegations made by Mampintsha’s sister, Pinky Gumede, regarding the late musician’s wedding and lobola negotiations.

Pinky recently made claims suggesting that Mampintsha did not personally finance the lobola and that their wedding was largely funded by the production company behind their reality show.

In response, Babes Wodumo’s manager and spokesperson, Nondumiso Simelane, refuted these allegations, stating that Pinky was not involved in the lobola discussions and was misinformed.

“Pinky knows nothing about the lobola negotiations. Mandla was never broke, and he paid lobola from his own pocket. As the Simelane family, we received lobola from Mandla and not from Showmax or the production company. Pinky wouldn’t know this because she never assisted Mandla financially in any way,” Simelane said.

Pinky had alleged that the wedding was orchestrated for television, claiming that the production company handled many of the costs, including outfits and even Mampintsha’s wedding ring.

She further suggested that the late musician himself admitted to being financially strained at the time and had no choice but to go along with the arrangements.

According to her, Mampintsha was under pressure and even confessed that he was intoxicated on the day of the wedding, making it difficult for him to recall details of the event.

She also accused the production company of distorting Zulu traditions, saying that had Mampintsha truly paid lobola, the family would have observed traditional rituals such as burning impepho (incense) to inform the ancestors.

However, Babes Wodumo’s team has maintained that Mampintsha honored his cultural obligations and that his family was well aware of the process. Showmax and the production company involved have not publicly responded to the claims
