20 Johannesburg suburbs to face a power outage

A planned power outage will affect 20 suburbs in Johannesburg. The outage will occur on Friday, 14 March 2025 from 9:00 to 13:00 and on Monday, 17 March 2025 from 9:00 to 17:00.


The planned power outage is due to maintenance work that needs to be done on the utility’s electricity network.

“The interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network which is part of our program of constantly striving to provide a better service,” the statement read.

Affected areas

The power outage will occur on Friday, 14 March 2025 from 9:00 to 13:00 and will affect the following suburbs:

  2. Kyalami BLV

The power outage will occur on Monday, 17 March 2025 from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following suburbs:

  1. Daniel Street
  2. Banbury Street
  3. Elgin
  4. Whitney
  5. Grosvenor Road
  6. Kingswood Cres
  7. Arklow
  8. Chesterfield
  9. St Audley Rd
  10. Crescent Flats
  11. Belgrave Street
  12. Panners Ln
  13. Borrowdale
  14. River Club
  15. Westminister Ave
  16. Main road
  17. High school
  18. Country Life

Power disruption affecting seven substations in Johannesburg

City Power Johannesburg stated that the Inner City Service Delivery Centre currently has 1415 calls, with 962 calls reported in the last 24 hours related to power disruptions.

The affected substations are Belevue Substation, Bree Substation, Cleveland Substation, John Ware Substation, Orchads Substation and Siemert Road Substation.

Bellevue Substation

Restoration efforts for a power disruption that affected Yeo Street, Grafton, Harley, Hopkins, Fortesque, Becker and nearby streets are currently at 66%.

Bree Substation

Customers in Bree, Diagonal, Sauer, Kort and nearby streets are to remain without power until repairs are complete.

Cleveland Substation

The system is currently unstable after restorations. A comprehensive investigation will be held today to determine further steps that need to be taken.

John Ware Substation

The utility’s team has made progress in repairing the faulty cable connected to the interposing transformer. While full restoration has not been achieved, however, power has been partially restored in Ferreirasdorp, Fordsburg and Newtown.

Siemert Road Substation

The team is currently working on draining water from a flooded chamber affecting End, Davis, Rockey, and Mosley Streets in Doornfontein.

Orchids Substation

Restoration efforts are currently at 61% after a power disruption that affected Linksfield, Sydenham and surrounding areas.
