Black clothes are no less than a fashion statement in themselves.

They have a sense of power, professionalism, and of course, black goes well with everything.

And so with time, black became a staple in people’s wardrobes, dominating their pants, shirts, and even the everyday dupattas.

And yet, with its widespread appeal, black now comes with a sense of doubt about its energy. For time immemorial, black carries certain beliefs that make some people avoid it, especially when worn too frequently.

Black colour across cultures

In many cultures, black is linked to mourning, sadness, and loss. It is the colour most commonly worn at funerals, and is a symbol of grief and respect for the departed. And so with time as cultures came together, new beliefs formed, and wearing black too often came to be seen as inauspicious.
Some people are also of the opinion that constantly wearing black can affect your emotions and mindset, making you feel withdrawn or distant.

Beliefs about black

From the black cat to the black veil, everything associated to darker aspects is looked down upon. In many traditions, black is linked to mystery, secrecy, and even danger, and it is said that excessive use of black is will create an imbalance of energies, drawing in heavier powers toward the person.

Black cats, for example, are seen as dark omens across beliefs, and when describing something as eerie or filled with horror and fear, the background of black is used.

The belief of energies

One of the most common reasons why people are advised to not wear black too often is that black is known to absorb energies, both positive and negative. It is said that unlike lighter colours that reflect energy, black pulls it in and holds onto whatever energy is present around it. And this is why people who are sensitive to energies or those who practice spiritual healing avoid the black colour.
And so it is believed that if a person wears black in places with heavy or negative energies, they might absorb those energies. And this is why in funerals and cremations, people only wear white, not black.

Attracting heavier vibrations

Many people believe that colours carry vibrations and energies. The blue makes you calm, the red makes you angry, pink makes you think of love, and green channels your emotions in a positive way. But black, it is said, attracts heavier and lower vibrations when it comes to positivity and joy. It makes people feel weighed down, almost as if something is constantly bugging them.

A negative influence

In the black clothes argument, people also say that this colour makes you feel weak and stuck, almost as if an outer force is holding your legs, not letting you release the energies within. It is said that people who frequently wear black develop a more serious or guarded outlook, and are much less approachable.
The energies that black absorbs could be extremely positive as well as extremely negative, making you the victim of an unknown chaos inside you.
