Mac G’s podcast and others will air on DStv
DStv is taking a bold step into the future of entertainment by bringing some of Africa’s most popular podcasters to television.
This strategic move will see well-loved podcasts transition from digital platforms to mainstream TV, with new shows launching on Mzansi Wethu and Mzansi Magic from April 10 at 5:30 PM.
Among the line-up are some of the internet’s most-watched podcasts, including Podcast and Chill with MacG, Against The Wall with Skeem GP, Awkward Dates with Lasizwe, Joseph Dary, People Need Comedy with Mpho Popps, Spreading Humours, Open Chats Podcast, and Piano Pulse.
According to an industry insider, DStv’s decision is a calculated effort to tap into the growing influence of digital content creators.
“This move will convert podcasters’ subscribers into DStv viewers — benefiting both the podcasters and the platform,” the source revealed.
Shirley Adonisi, director for M-Net’s local entertainment channels, described the initiative as a game-changer.
“This is a revolution, a bold step into the future where linear television meets the gutsy, unfiltered world of digital storytelling,” she said.
She further expressed excitement about the fresh energy podcasters will bring to television.
“These creators have redefined entertainment, and now we’re welcoming them to shake up the traditional TV space. We are excited to be at the forefront of this transformation.”
DStv’s weekly schedule will feature a diverse range of shows, catering to various interests. Piano Pulse will spotlight the Amapiano scene, People Need Comedy will offer a comedic take on life, while Podcast and Chill will continue delivering unfiltered celebrity conversations.
Other highlights include Skeem GP’s raw prison stories, Open Chats’ deep dives into relationships, and Spreading Humours’ take on social media trends.
Mzansi Magic viewers can look forward to Awkward Dates with Lasizwe, an entertaining exploration of celebrity dating mishaps, and Joseph Dary’s take on relationship dynamics through his viral Switching Phones for 60 Seconds segment.
