Gigi Lamayne reacts to the derogatory remarks directed at her
Gigi Lamayne finally breaks her silence after being called a downgrade on a recent interview featuring her boyfriend Sizwe Alakine, a.k.a Reason.
She spoke out against the harmful effects of labeling people with derogatory names, highlighting how such comments have caused many to suffer mental breakdowns.
“Thank goodness it didn’t do that to me, but many have been hurt to that point,” she shared.
Her remarks follow a heated exchange involving her partner, Reason—also known as Sizwe Alakine—who recently confronted podcasters from Piano Pulse over comments suggesting Gigi was a downgrade from his ex-girlfriend, media personality Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha.
During the podcast, the hosts claimed Lootlove was a more suitable partner for Reason, prompting him to defend Gigi and question the basis of their judgment.
“I’m not with someone because of what they have—I’m with them because I love them,” Reason responded, challenging the podcasters’ opinions.
“What gives anyone the right to call someone a downgrade?”
Gigi has since addressed the situation, expressing her disappointment rather than anger.
“I’m disappointed for such a big platform with so much influence to have that type of opinion,” she told ZiMoja.
“I am not bothered, but someone else would have been badly affected. I just hope people continue to do their jobs with a bit more kindness. Let’s be kind.”
Despite the controversy, Gigi remains focused on her career. She is preparing for the release of her upcoming album, Doves & Scones, set to drop on March 27.
“That is where I am putting my focus—on my music and my contribution, not competition,” she added.
