Master KG faces lawsuit over ‘Jerusalema’ ownership as Charmza the DJ takes legal action
The legal battle over the global hit Jerusalema is far from over, as DJ Charmza has taken Master KG to court, claiming he is the true creator of the viral song.
According to reports, the case is set for trial from 17 November 2025 to 25 November 2025, with a possibility of an extension if it is not concluded within that period.
Charmza the DJ has also listed Master KG’s former record label, Open Mic Productions, online licensing platform Africori, and musician Biblos as defendants in the lawsuit.
Charmza, who initially filed the copyright infringement case at the Pretoria High Court in June 2022, insists that he deserves credit for Jerusalema.
In his court documents, he revealed plans to call three witnesses to back his claim.
Meanwhile, the DJ has expressed deep concern for his safety after his father and sibling were shot and killed, prompting him to go into hiding.
The Jerusalema controversy has continued to raise debates within the music industry, as the song remains one of the most successful African hits in recent years.
