Scotts Maphuma faces backlash after complaining about fame

Amapiano star Scotts Maphuma has given fans a glimpse into the downside of fame, revealing that his newfound recognition comes with its own set of challenges.

The Biri Marung hitmaker shared his frustrations about the lack of privacy and the expectations that come with being in the public eye.

Scotts, whose song became a viral sensation, admitted that the attention isn’t always flattering. In a post reshared by blogger @maphephandaba, he expressed a deep longing for normalcy, saying:

“I wish I were normal again so I could do things like shopping at a mall without anyone talking to me.”

The singer further vented about the pressure to always be available for fans, stating:

“If South Africa doesn’t care about us whether you’re hurt or not in the mood, it could be anything, because it’s not like I live in the studio and make music all the time. Why should I always understand that these people are my fans, why? You tell a person that today I’m not feeling like taking pictures, and all of a sudden, you’re rude. So I should give people my time and energy by force just because I’m who I am?”

His remarks sparked mixed reactions online, with some celebrities weighing in.

While socialite and fitness influencer Sbahle Mpisane agreed with his sentiments, others, including Inno Morolong, seemed taken aback by his words.

In a bold conclusion, Scotts challenged his critics, saying:

“Sorry, cancel me South Africa, maybe I’ll be free from you.”

The post ignited debates about the price of fame, with some fans sympathizing with his plight, while others felt he should have expected the scrutiny that comes with success.
