Sonia Mbele dumps her married lover
Renowned actress and executive producer Sonia Mbele has revealed that she ended her secret engagement due to her ex-partner’s undesirable habits.
The former Generations star also confirmed parting ways with a businessman after learning he had gotten married, as she refused to be part of a love triangle.
Mbele, known for producing The Real Housewives of Joburg and hosting the podcast Woza Nazo, was allegedly engaged in 2023, according to a close associate who spoke under anonymity.
The source claimed that Mbele had been overjoyed when her ex surprised her with an extravagant silver ring and a heartfelt proposal.
However, after months of romance, she decided to end the relationship, citing concerns over his behavior.
The same source disclosed that Mbele had also been involved with a wealthy businessman, but their relationship came to an abrupt end when she discovered he had secretly tied the knot.
“She didn’t want to be anyone’s second option. Sonia is a successful, beautiful woman who knows her worth,” the source stated.
Mbele, who has portrayed memorable roles such as Cleopatra Mokwena in Family Secrets and Lisbeth Molapo in Blood & Water, allegedly made it clear that she would not compromise her principles by being part of an adulterous affair.
“She is a woman of integrity and understands that, as a public figure, her relationships are constantly under scrutiny. The last thing she wants is to be caught up in scandal,” the source added.
Unlike some celebrities who shy away from the spotlight, Mbele is said to embrace her public persona and refuses to engage in relationships that require secrecy.
“She values her freedom. If she’s in love, she doesn’t want to hide in the shadows or meet someone in secret to avoid controversy,” the source shared.
The award-winning actress recently made headlines when she showcased a red Ferrari reportedly worth R5 million.
Despite speculation about her engagement, Mbele clarified that while her former partner did buy her the ring, it was never formally placed on her finger. “I was never engaged,” she insisted.
When asked if she had misled her close associates about the engagement, she denied any deception.
She also reaffirmed her decision to walk away from the businessman, stating that she had no interest in being entangled in marital drama.
