Donell Mbele’s case postponed
Donell Mbele remains entangled in legal proceedings as he faces two charges of rape, following allegations made by his 17-year-old girlfriend.
The 23-year-old appeared before the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 31 March, as the case against him progresses.
The accusations stem from incidents that allegedly took place on 14 and 15 December 2024 at his residence in Morningside.
According to the complainant, the two had gone out on a date at Clearwater Mall, where they consumed beverages. When the restaurant closed for the night, they opted to move to another location. At some point, Donell reportedly suggested stopping by his place to charge his phone, which is where the alleged incidents occurred.
During his court appearance, Donell asserted that there had been an attempt to extort his family.
He claimed that certain police officers tried to obtain R350,000 using fabricated dockets, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Despite the severity of the allegations, he is currently out on R1,000 bail as he awaits his next court appearance.
National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, confirmed that the case has been postponed.
“The alleged rape matter against Donell Mbele was postponed by the Randburg Magistrates Court to 14 April 2025. This is to allow for the disclosure of the contents of the docket. The accused is facing two charges of rape stemming from a complaint filed with the police by his 17-year-old girlfriend,” she stated.
