Popular radio personality DJ Finzo, born Phinel Sefatsa, has been dismissed from Lesedi FM after being accused of accepting a bribe from Free State musicians.
The dismissal came after an investigation into allegations that DJ Finzo had accepted money from the duo Geshlido in exchange for playing their songs on air.
According to reports from Sunday World, DJ Finzo was let go after admitting to receiving R5,000 from the musicians in 2023 for a performance at their event.
However, he denies the accusations of payola, claiming the money was compensation for his performance and not a bribe to play their music on the station.
He expressed surprise that the incident, which occurred two years ago, was brought up now.
In a statement, DJ Finzo clarified that after the incident, he had a meeting with the Lesedi FM programs manager, Mannini Nyokong, and the group Geshlido.
During the meeting, he reportedly explained that the money was not a bribe.
DJ Finzo further accused Nyokong of conspiring with another music compiler at the station to have him dismissed.
He stated, “The same Mannini worked with the other music compiler, who is also a radio presenter at the station, to pin this whole thing on me so that I could be fired.”
While the controversy has sparked mixed reactions, many netizens have criticized DJ Finzo and made jokes about the amount involved in the alleged bribe, which they feel was too small to warrant such serious consequences.
