Tyla set to drop rap music

Grammy Award-winning artist Tyla has revealed an unexpected twist in her musical journey during a recent conversation with Nylon.

Far from resting on the laurels of her sensational vocals that catapulted her to global fame with the hit single “Water,” Tyla now hints at a dynamic evolution in her sound.

Confident in her rapping abilities, she shared that she’s been sitting on a treasure trove of unreleased rap songs—proving she’s not confined to just one genre.

While her self-titled debut resonated widely due to its captivating blend of Amapiano, pop, and R&B, Tyla is gearing up to take a creative leap on her upcoming sophomore album.

She explained that she never limited herself to studying one particular artist, instead drawing inspiration from a broad spectrum of performers, which allowed her to develop her unique style.

“I never really studied specific artists. Whatever songs, performances, music videos I liked, I just obsessed over those individual things. It was very broad. Pop stars, rappers, R&B singers. It started with the sound of music I wanted to make, because I knew that I wanted to do something completely different from what I’ve heard before. I was making anything and everything,” Tyla noted.

The anticipation builds as she also confirmed that among the diverse tracks recorded, there are “full-on rap songs” alongside pure R&B and Amapiano cuts.

“I have full-on rap songs. Full-on R&B. Full-on amapiano. I played a lot and found a mixture that felt like me,” she added, hinting at the eclectic blend that will soon redefine her artistry.

When asked about the vibe of a typical Tyla rap track, she simply described it as “hot” and emphasized her excitement to showcase a side of her talent that many might not have expected.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s hot. I’m excited to show people that I’m more diverse than they think. I want to take my time with my artistry and give whatever feels right for that moment. So, one day, you’re going to get that Tyla rap song,” she shared confidently.
