Benjamin Dube announces departure from Spirit of Praise collective
Gospel icon Reverend Benjamin Dube has officially announced his departure from the beloved gospel collective, Spirit of Praise.
The announcement, made via a statement on Monday, marked the end of what he called one of the most meaningful chapters in his career.
Dube, whose name has become synonymous with Spirit of Praise’s spiritual depth and musical brilliance, described the decision as one of the most difficult he’s had to make.
“Through this platform, countless lives have been touched, worship has been elevated, and the message of Christ has reached multitudes both locally and globally,” he reflected in the statement.
Since the group’s formation in 2008 and its debut recording at the Pretoria State Theatre, Dube has been central to its growth and impact.
His powerful renditions of songs like Lonile iBandla and the Elshadai Medley have not only become fan favourites but also solidified the group’s influence across generations and borders.
Spirit of Praise has released ten volumes of music, and Dube’s voice and presence were instrumental in building the brand into a household name in gospel music.
Now, after more than a decade of shaping the group’s musical and spiritual direction, Dube is turning his focus toward what he calls a divine calling on his life.
According to his personal assistant and brand manager, Hloni Mohlala, the gospel star is ready to shift gears and pour more of himself into personal ministry projects.
“Rev Dube is ready to pour into the vision God has placed on his heart,” Mohlala said, adding that mentoring young gospel artists and expanding his outreach will now take center stage in his mission.
Despite the departure, the split is filled with love and mutual respect. Dube extended heartfelt thanks to Spirit Music Group and co-founders Aubrey Peacock and Matthew Nkabinde for their years of collaboration and shared vision.
“Rev Dube departs with nothing but love, honour, and profound appreciation in his heart,” the statement emphasized.
