Kanye West shows love to SA singer Tyla

Kanye West has once again stirred up conversation online, but this time, it seems many South Africans weren’t particularly moved.

The American rapper and music mogul recently turned heads after expressing admiration for South African Grammy Award-winning artist Tyla Seethal.

In a surprising moment, Kanye took to X (formerly Twitter)—a platform he was previously banned from—and reposted a picture of Tyla alongside fellow artist Gunna.

Along with the image, he simply wrote: “Respect and love.”

While the gesture could have been taken as a moment of recognition for the rising global star Tyla, many netizens in South Africa reacted with indifference.

Some even found humor in the moment, with one social media user cheekily commenting, “She left you.”

The post gained further traction after it was shared by the entertainment and gossip outlet MDNews, who captioned their repost with: “US controversial rapper Kanye West posted a picture of Gunna and Tyla on X (formerly Twitter), captioned: respect and love.”

Despite Kanye’s intentions, the general tone from many online responses was cool, with some shrugging off the shout-out entirely.
