Parliament summons Mac G
Podcaster Mac G, whose real name is MacGyver Mukwevho, is under serious scrutiny after making offensive remarks about TV personality Minnie Dlamini during an episode of his Podcast and Chill show, sparking outrage from both government officials and the public.
Deputy Minister for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, has condemned Mac G’s comments, describing them as not only “repugnant” but also a clear example of online gender-based violence.
The comments, which included unverified claims about Dlamini’s past romantic relationships and degrading references to her personal hygiene, have been widely slammed as disrespectful and harmful.
“Such statements are not only degrading but also contribute to a culture of disrespect and abuse against women,” said Letsike in a statement released by the Department.
She emphasized that the remarks violated Dlamini’s constitutional rights to dignity, equality, and personal security, and called for urgent action to address the growing problem of digital abuse targeting women.
In response, Mac G is now expected to appear before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities to account for his conduct.
Failure to comply with the summons could result in legal consequences, including a fine or up to 12 months in prison.
Legal professionals are also said to be weighing the possibility of pursuing a crimen injuria charge, a legal term used in South Africa for the unlawful, intentional, and serious violation of the dignity or privacy of another person.
