Bogus doctor Matthew Lani is reportedly suing the police minister

Controversial TikTok personality Matthew Lani, known for posing as a medical doctor, is reportedly taking legal action against the Minister of Police, demanding R2 million in damages.

Lani, who was arrested in 2023 at Helen Joseph Hospital for impersonating a doctor, claims his arrest was unlawful and has left him financially and emotionally devastated.

Now living in a shelter and surviving on a monthly R370 Social Relief of Distress grant, Lani insists the arrest ruined his life.

According to a recent City Press report published on Sunday, 25 May, Lani argues that the incident led to the loss of his home and primary source of income as a content creator.

Despite the controversy, Lani remains active on TikTok.

A recent video shared by user @officialtwinny shows him boldly claiming to be a senior manager, while another clip posted by @burnerburnerac5 captures him selling ice cream on the streets, recorded on 10 May.

These videos have sparked a range of reactions from South Africans, many of whom are both amused and impressed by his persistent hustle.

“He must be awarded a hustler of the year award… From being a medical doctor to selling ice cream!” one user, @Me_ThatoYaone, commented.

Another, @UpittyAfrican, said, “Omg! He can’t even make it swirl properly. I commend him for the hustle though.”

Meanwhile, @orchidsntulips noted, “There are people who wholeheartedly believed he was a doctor and black professionals were under attack.”

@Normanbooz added, “One thing we can all agree about when it comes to him is that he is a hustler. He’ll always find a way to make a bag.”
